  • Sunflowers when do they appear?

I bought a kids kit for growing sunflowers complete with a 2 metre measuring tape for the competition...

Problem is, they are far taller than 2m and there's no sign of a flower.

Can I expect to see a flower at this point in the season or do I just have strange green sticks with leaves on instead?

They should still flower - maybe at 3 or 4 meters!

I'd have expected them to flower by now, unless snails had eaten the tops off (like one of mine). Ours have been out at least a fortnight

They could just be a really tall variety. Mine are coming into flower now but they are at the 5ft ish height and the multi -petal, multi headed sort. Don't give up!

I'm not growing any this year- but mine used to flower about the same time as my Jerusalem Artichokes...and they aren't in flower yet.

I'm thinking I may need to view any flowers from my upstairs window at this rate

There haven't been any snails or slugs near them.

I've never had sunflower success, although my last attempt was almost 30 years ago in primary school. I've been excited by their growth until friends are showing beautiful flowers and I have green sticks.

Don't worry, they'll get there My friend's were at the same stage as yours about a week ago, and they have a very obvious flower bud now, with more forming in the leaf junctions too.
