    Not ripening

    My tomatoes are not ripening, they are in a green house, they did thius lat year outside, they get around 4-5 hours of sunlight a day. My friend has hers outside and they are ripening, thay also get about 4-5 hours of sunlight a day. Why arent they ripening? They are Gardeners delight.
    Thanls for any help!!!!

    (I dont want to make green tomatoe chutney!!!!!!!)

    Whereabouts are you? And when were your tomatoes planted? Do you have good sized tomatoes on your plants? My Gardener's Delight are just starting to ripen - there should be plenty of time yet.

      As Rustylady said "plenty of time yet". They will ripen Im sure, you just need to wait :-)

            Mine are still green SD so you're not on your own.

              I have ripening ones!

              They're only cherries though, so I'm imagining they ripen sooner.
              I really want a full truss of ripe ones, is it safe to leave the ripe ones on? I can't imagine they'll go off if they're still on the plant.

                  I harvested and ate my first ripe cherry toms yesterday. They were my first ever tomatoes, grown with the help and advice of Grapes many of whom have commented on this thread, and I have to say they were delicious - so proud of them!

                  I was starting to wonder if they would ever turn red myself, as several had been at full size for what felt like weeks, and were still all green. Then I went away for 5 days and returned to find the first ones looking luscious and red - keep the faith, it will happen!

                  I have loads more in the vine, but none showing signs of ripening yet, but hopefully they will all start to turn in the next few weeks.

                    I tend to leave a few ripe(ish) ones at the top of the truss. Don't know whether it works really, but it does seem to encourage the others to ripen a bit quicker.
