  • Empty Broad Bean pods

the pods looked big, had fallen down like they were heavy and had bean shaped 'curves', but when I opened them, empty or tiny tiny pods. I saw I had a black fly problem a few weeks back and nipped the tops out and they seemed fine but no beans

Is this a pollination problem? I sowed 8 more seeds last week (in the ground) that are poking their heads through so I can try and do better next time

I have had the same problem, could be something to do with the fluctuating temperatures hot during the day and cold at night messing the insects about

I had just the same with some of the pods I picked at the weekend. Fantastic healthy looking pods, 8" or so long ...opened them up and nothing inside!

Would pods still form though if they'd not been pollinated?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Our crop was much lower this year than last but still OK.
