  • what to grow over the winter??

    Hi,

I am wondering what to grow over the winter - haven't really got a clue!

I have seen an offer at Marshalls which is for Savoy Cabbage Wintessa Plants, Cabbage January King Plants, Cauliflower Alpen Plants and Cabbage Excel Plants. So I think I will go with them as you get 16 of each plant for £10.95.

Looking at onions I was thinking of Onion Senshyu Yellow and Onion Dobies Autumn Champion.

Are the above OK or can anyone recommend something different, I need an overwintering lettuce if anyone can recommend any. What about leeks?

Is there anything else that can be grown over winter?

    Any help really appreciated.

Spring cabbage, mooli, broad beans, peas, kales, swedes, garlic, PSB, can all be added to your list. Loads of varieties of each and probably a lot of other things too!

If you were growing from seed, you'd have done so in April (ish).

I have Rusty as a winter lettuce (it's done better for me than any others. It self-seeds every year and I just transplant the seedlings into a row). I am cutting great big ones now, as it's just about to bolt I think).
