  • Calla Lily Question

We have a Calla Lily in a pot indoors on a South facing windowsill. Gets most light during afternoons as we have big trees about 20' away that give some shade.

Question is, when the flowers come out they are pink initially then seem to turn green very quickly. I don't understand why they lose the colouring. It was originally on a North facing windowsill, last year, with less light but the flowers stayed pink a lot longer. They also start out upright and then droop over.

The plant's about 16-18" high now in a 8" pot. Just wondering if it needs a bigger pot or is there something else I need to do?

No leaf discolouration and overall seems to be healthy and it is flowering. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I don't know the answer myself Rossa but found this clip.

This is the normal progression for calla lilies. The blooms are pink, turn yellowish and then green. Not to worry. John, Johnson County Extension Master Gardener

      Thanks for the link BM.

I bought it for my Mum last year for Mother's Day and she loves it. She was just getting a bit worried about it. I think maybe she notices it more as it is now downstairs rather than in her bedroom so she sees it all the time. It also has far more flowers on it this year. I may pot it up anyway once it has finished flowering.

I think the thing with Callas are that the flowers are in fact the leaves that have formed into flowers. I believe Arums are similar.
