  • Broad beans attacked

Hi there, have just checked my winter-sown broad beans and they are absolutely covered in Aphids.

I've applied soapy water as was recommended, will this be good enough or will it require something more? there are literally hundreds of the little b'gers!

Also, will the infestation make the beans inedible? there are plenty on the plants, some almost ready to pick going by shape/firmness of the bean so I hope not!

    thanks in advance!

Usually the infestation is on the tips, so just pinch them out. The beans shouldn't be affected by the aphids or the pinching out.

Definitely pinch out the soft tips and reapply the soap solution at regular intervals (weekly, fortnightly, depending on how bad it is) and especially after rain.
