I just found this little beauty at the back of the border, can anyone identify it for us? Its around 30 inches tall and has 2-3 buds on it apart form this flower.

    Many thanks in advance!

It's an aquilegia! And a lovely one at that. It's the McCanna Hybrid type with the large voluptuous flowers. The wild kind has much smaller flowers. The good news it that it's a perennial. It will grace your border for many years.

I just love Aquilegias - all the different shapes and sizes. Don't be tempted to move her though, she'll hate that.

Many thanks Flummery for the id, and thank you also to Jeanied..if you had not said that I would definately have moved it as it cannot be seen where it is. I only saw it due to weeding.

So I must collect seed from it this year, it was a lovely surprise to find it.
