  • What are these pretty things?

A canadian friend of mine has some gorgeous tulip kinda looking flowers which she inherited with her new home. But she doesn't know what they are!

Can anyone help identify them, cos they would look fabulous amongst my flower beds.

Dunno - the second ones definitely have tulip foliage. Can't see the first so well.

I think the first ones (pinky purple) are probably a type species of tulip as Flum says, maybe 'Little Beauty', it's just that they've opened up a lot in the sun. Not so sure about the second (yellow) ones the shape of the petals looks slightly odd for a tulip but the flowers have opened up a lot in the sun so it could just be that.

They are both tulips imho. Get the bulbs in autumn and plant them! I suggest you contact a specialist tulip seller and go for what you fancy! The reason they look like species is that they are quite short, and several bulbs together not singly - they could have divided themselves to form a nice clump or they could have been planted like that.

I hd some species tulips in my old garden - tarda they were called. They opened out flat like a poached egg plant. Gorgeous little things they were.
