  • Advice on Black currents

Hi All, we've got quite a large what I thought was "ornamental" black current bush. It's just finished flowering with beautiful dangly pink flowers which had the definate scent of black currents. All good there then....Problem is, I didn't think the fruit was edible, until a freecycler came to collect some items and munched a few berries last year saying what a great plant! It was pretty late into the season so there weren't a lot of berries left at this point (the birds had got them all) so I've not really thought any more about it until now. There are lots of berry's forming, and I just wanted to ask if anyone else has got one of these plants, and if they do, what do they do with the berries if they are edible....

sorry, longer message than I'd planned!

Flowering currant? Apparently it's edible, but not very nice

Normal blackcurrants have white flowers. The pink ones are ornamental - edible but not that tasty.
