    help with attack

    Hi firstly im new to growing and new to this forum so Hi.
    iv just planted tomatos , sweetcorn , peppers , strawberries , carrots & potatos ( to get me started)
    i just wonderd when i should look to protect them from attack from them pesky insects ( what product to use and when) .
    they are all small shoots ie not seeds ( im not sure what you call them at that stage) and in either platers or potts and plated in compsost ( outside at the moment).

    if there is any advice you would like to give me i would appreiciate it ans i am a newbie.
    in the meantime i am reading through the forum and getting great advice Thanks to you all

    No products; just let the other insects do their work.

      Welcome to the vine jon, the only protection they may need if they are outside is from the weather.

        Nope, nothing needed for that selection.
        Personally I carry a BB gun in readiness for my predicted cat-ocalypse, they cause more mayhem in my patch than anything else

            At some point, your toms will probably be attacked by greenfly. No nasty chemicals needed, spray the plants with diluited wasking up liquid.

            Also, watch out for carrot fly. Prevention is better than cure here, and a barrier round the carrot-growing area stops the low-flying beasties getting there.

            Others will be able to give you better, more comprehensive advice, or do a search on here, but maybe that will help a little bit.

              In essence - research your veg and try to prevent the baddies from getting there rather than just rushing for a spray when they do.

                I've tried alternating rows of carrots and alliums this year to ward off carrot root fly as (apparently) the smell can deter them.
                I've also read that Two Sheds tried this and it never worked...I shall see
