I have just taken on another little bit of ground at my allotment site. The gentleman who previously owned it was into his red hot poker plants. There are three clumps each about 3' across. Unfortunately, the roots appear to go down even further. I want these things out of the way so would like to dig them up, rater than spray them off. I have removed one of the crowns, but I am concerned about the roots. Are they liable to grow back just from root sections or does removing the "crown" cause the roots to die off.

As I understand it Red Hot Pokers grow from corms so as long as you remove those then you'll be fine.

I've just moved some from my lottie to my garden here.

We transplanted several last year that were about 18"-2' across. We dug them up and healed them in elsewhere then moved them again 2 months later and they still survived, even got a few flowers still. I imagine they'll do better this year, they are just sprouting their new leaves.
If you've got spare plants freecycle them, we had a bit of a fight over the spares we took out
