  • Petunia problems

    Hi all,

I bought some trays of Petunia's lst week from a large DIY store that I'm sure you all know, the plants looked okay when I bought them, but noticed the
next couple of days that some of the leaves have a grey/yellowing to them.
I thought it might have been a bit of frost, as there was some the other night, these trays were bought from the outside garden section so I thought they would be hardened off now.
But it seems to be growing a bit more each day, are Petunia's prone to some sort of greying mold or similar?
Not sure wether to pick off the affected leaves and chance them or take them back, in case it spreads to other plants.

Sounds like to much overhead water.

if it was frost the plants would be dead: they are tender.

I would suspect erratic watering myself, it's what the DIY stores excel at

Were they seed raised or surfinia type from cuttings?
Petunias are subject to a number of viruses, some of which also affect tomatoes. There seem to be more problems now with many cuttings being raised in african countries to save on heat then flown over here. DEFRA have been tracking some new viruses on petunias this year.
If the yellowing gives a mottled effect or shows as ring spots I would be inclined to go back to the garden centre you bought from and see if they have had other problems

          Hi,
thanks for your replies, I've gone with the over watering thinking, and have kept them,
I kept them seperate from everything else, picked off a few of discoloured leaves and they seemed
to have improved, I was just concerned in case they affected anything else.
