  • Sweet Peas

    Good Morning,
I have had sweat peas going on kitchen paper & are now ready for potting up. I was thinking of giving loo rolls another go. How many seedling would you put in one roll?. Thanks in advance.

Only one per roll, Bigmally. If they've sprouted they should grow. Make sure your compost is damp, not wet. Plant the seeds about three quarters of an inch deep and watch them take off.

Excellent Rusty,Thanks a lot. I wasn't sure as when you buy them in pots from shops, they have 5/6 in one pot so it threw me out a tad.

Definately stick to one per BM, they don't really appreciate having their roots disturbed.

I've had really bad germination rates with my sweet peas, is this just the time of year or am I doing something wrong? I'm sowing them to the instructions on the T & M pack.

PS, how do you start them off on kitchen paper, is this as easy as it sounds?

          Thanks

I'm a Rootrainer gal meself - once bought, they are superb and with careful handling and washing they last a fair time. Mine are now five years old

I'm sure you know what I refer to, but if not, tis these babies:

I have always had better results starting them off over winter, kitchen paper is as easy as it sounds.....just dampen the paper & sprinkle your seeds on, cover the saucer with cling film. I was lucky & had a self sealed plastic container that had some sausage rolls or something in from Asda. It was about 1 foot square & about 2" high so was perfect.

Ok guys, after too much reading, I've changed my mind & ordered a boatload of 5" Rootrainers. The question still stands though, is it still one plant per cell?.......Thanks yet again.
