  • how fast does Daphne grow?

I recently bought a plug plant of Daphne mezereum (and sympathise with you, amandandherveg, it was tiny: http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ike_41277.html)

I was wondering if anyone had grown this and how quickly I might expect it to grow? I mean, I know it's not bamboo, but would be lovely if it was going to grow 2 feet next spring/summer.

Sorry Queen of the Cobs. Daphne is VERY slow growing. I think it will be years before it makes 2 feet.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

And they sulk for a few years after planting and refuse to flower.

Daphne mezereum and another allegedly fragrant Daphne I planted, both container grown plants, sulked for about 9 months and then died.

My soil may have been to heavy?

I wish you luck with your plug plant

Yes, sorry, it's a VERY slow grower (that's partly why they're so expensive to buy, the nurseries have to keep them for a long time before they are saleable).

Daphnes do sulk as well, so you may find it grows hardly at all in the next season.

I'm glad I asked - now i'm going to keep it in a pot and generally baby it until it comes on.

            thanks
