My niece has bought me a grow and name your own rose, its a seed and doesnt say when to plant it??? when is best?? iv got a very bad feeling about this..................

It is always worth trying to grow something - you never know what is going to happen! I googled rose seed and came up with this american link which goes through all the hybridisation stages but ends up with rose seed growing.

For what it's worth
I would keep the seeds until February (I take it it is seeds you have)
Plant the seeds about 1/4 deep in damp compost in a seed tray.
Put the seed tray in a freezer bag and clip it closed.
Put the whole thing on a windowcill in a warm room but out of direct sunlight.
Watch it for green shoots appearing.
Once you have seedlings with a pair of true leaves (leaves that look like roses) prise them out gently and plant into a 3" pot.
Put the pots outdoros during the day and take in at night until they are hardened off - maybe everyday for about 2 weeks.
Once hardenede off you can leave them outdoors in their pots to grow on
When the plants get too big for their 3" pots move them up to 5" pots.
By the end of summer they should be ready for planting out - probably in a nursery bed.
In a couple of years you should have a good flowering rose - I hope it's lovely.
Nothing happens overnight - it's a long term project - good luck.
