Yes, it seems to be real. A google search finds many entries. If you look at an image of one you will understand why it is called the penis pepper. And this forum didn't censor the word either.

Yup thats the one, the Peter pepper or penis pepper, no idea how it got the name.
One of those things I've often said I'll grow for novelty value but never yet got round to it. Might treat myself to some seeds this year for xmas.

Yes, that's the one I meant. I can't decide whether it would be good fun for novelty value (one of the eBay sellers recommends leaving them whole in salads and serving up to your MIL) or whether I would just have to hide them every time my niece or step-daughter came over!

I'll go for it, if someone else does, and we can swap notes!

Perhaps we could share a packet of seeds. After all, you don't need more than one. So to speak...

I've grown these and most of them aren't that obvious in shape so you probably wouldn't have to hide them very often. Having said that, I only got a couple of chillis on my plant but you might have a more prolific one.

Before anyone buys the chilli seeds I will be putting my spare seeds up for swapping at the end of Sept. I bought some seeds for some fun but don't need them all.

Frosty - I forgot to buy some this year - would love a few of your spares - have many varieties of all sorts of chillies/peppers - or pleny of other stuff which might be of interest to you.

Just let me know the kinds of things you're interested in - or gaps of hard-to-find things.

My best 'exotic' project this year has been growing Dragon Fruit cacti from saved seeds - now around 6 inches tall and growing well in my sun-lounge. Have plenty of seed still left!

I grew the Peter Pepper this year and the chillis certainly never looked like the ones in the photo. Mind you with all this rubbish weather I am not sure much of my stuff has done as it should
