  • Sweet Peas

I've never grown these before but we have just put a fence around our pond to stop the children going for a swim and while you can't really see the fence the posts are quite noticeable so I thought growing sweet peas up them would make it more attractive. Anyway, I've just bought some seeds and it says to grow under cover until march or direct sow in april and may. My worry is though that if I direct sow my chickens or other birds will have them before they have a chance to grow into anything. Am I too late to sow them in my greenhouse and then transplant them out once they are established?

I would give it a go ! Mine are only 1 inch high from planting last week, you will proberly find that in the shed it is warmer and they will grow quicker anyway ! Have fun ! Stuart

Or you could direct sow under bottle cloches or similar, to give them a chance of getting to a decent height before the chickens get them?

Go for it.You can cover the pots with the cling film until the seeds germinated(What I did with mine after birds ate all sunflowers)

Thet soon come up indoors. Pop a few in and you will be surprised how quickly thet germinate.
