  • earwiggy clematis

I was out on slug patrol last night - had a quick look at my Montana Rubens clematis - just starting its 2nd year, its about 8 feet tall and about to sprout new shoots like mad.
BUT - it was teaming with ear-wigs! hundreds of them.... I gave it a shake and most fell off.

Does anyone know if this is normal? Would they be causing any damage?

they could well be eating your clematis buds & flowers. Set up some traps and dispose of them. Earwig - friend and foe

Two Sheds - thanks for you help, but you've made me realise, I've got my woodlice and earwigs mixed up!

I checked the clematis during the day, and they'd disappeared, only to return again at night! Having read your garden creatures webpage, it doesn't seem they provide a huge threat.
