Not sure if this is the right place to post this but...
I have some chestnuts left over from Christmas, they're in the fridge does anyone know if I could plant them and get and succeed in getting a chestnut tree? If so what do I do?

It would take a very, very long time for your chestnut tree to fruit. It's also a very large tree when mature. If you have the space and would like your children to enjoy the chestnuts, you could give it a go. Otherwise, better compost them I think.

Thanks Esther Greentree, I'll give it a go as I do have the space but will be realistic that if one takes I will be planting for the next generation

good to hear you are going to do that. It's very sad to look at the hedgerows and see all the mature trees with almost no younger trees growing up to replace them in the next 100 years. I imagine it's to do with the fact that the machines used to cut/slash back the hedges just chop down all the saplings.A chestnut tree will be a wonderful gift for future generations, both to eat the produce and to view from afar!

I asked because I have only been here for 2 years and in my first few months was walking around the village and on the green there was a conker tree with lots of conkers on the ground, so I picked 4 up and 'bunged' them in a quiet place under some trees and 3 have taken

            Hedges

Let's hope your local council or farmers don't slash the hedge down with their tractor trimmers every year. This is a bit of a bug-bear with me at the moment - how many young trees do you see nowadays growing up in the hedegrows. All you get are the old ones and a flat splintered set of hawthorns everywhere...responsible farming or what?
