  • What not to use manure on

Bought a few sacks off a farmer today, he said it was well rotted and certainly looks the part.

I got to thinking about an episode of gardeners world where they mentioned a few thinks that dont like it. Is there anything you really shouldnt use it on ?

In my garden I have a sunny flower border with all sorts in it and a shady border with bulbs and shrubs. I also have a small veg patch.

Im assuming most things will like it but dont want to kill anything.

    Cheers

    Mike

My understanding is you should not use it on parsnips or carrots but not sure about anything else.

Lavender, rosemary and other plants that prefer gritty, low-nutrient soil may not like manure - not sure if it would actually kill or damage them, but I tend to use it only on things that like rich, moist, fertile soil.

With flowers, you tend to manure roses and perennials - shrubs - and not the short-lived annuals.

            It will kill them.

            I've done it by mistake.

I've got some manure, well rotted and have a few beds that I havent planted yet. Want to dig some in as the soil is pretty poor are there any more ideas

Someone said you could plant it uner your beans, do I have to leave it any length of time before planting the beans?

I used chicken manure in my flower beds last year and the Cosmos plants grew to about six feet tall and were all leaf and not that many flowers...that'll teach me!
