they will either flower or they won't theres only one way to find out, and if they don't flower this year, they'll be in the ground for next

Impeccable logic there Lynda. However in my experiance Tulips do tend to stop flowering after a few years when left in the ground.....and probably if you leave them in the bloody cupboard.

Of course muslimgrower yours must be doing so well cos you play them CD's

A friend of mine in scotland once planted her daffs in spring and had a beautiful display of them all summer!
Got to be worth a go (Mine all eaten by deer, not one bulb left unchewed )

how interesting...do they grub them up then?

my chooks tend to scratch up tulips but not daffs.

They have decimated my pots Uprooted the troughs, dirt and roots everywhere no bulbs!. I even brought them right up near the house.
No tulips this year - and one of my faves they are so cheery looking
Chickens in an enclosed run (25 by 25feet)so no chance of them getitng my bulbs

Oh I see they were in pots then. How irritating. I'm sorry for you...electric fence on the xmas wish list then? Terrible damage deer can do... Like goats...even eat roses!!!

I'm a bit soft on the freeranging chicken thing but in their defence they have made a good job of the weeding and pest control fertilizing as they go.

Big Tulip fan myself but then I have Dutch ancestry.

I have just finished planting some I bought before Christmas, they will bloom, just a bit later than normal, they will revert to the usual time next year.

The RHS are actually trialling planting them very late this year to see the effect it has.

Each year our village Britain in Bloom group are given a sack of daffs or a box of crocus from the local council - when they've used all they need - so we get them in January! They come late the first year but catch up to the normal time the following year. I think they'll bloom late this year but they'll get into their usual cycle next time. Give 'em a go!
