  • Have you sown any seeds/planted anything yet?

I really was looking forward to getting down to lottie today, or pottering around in the greenhouse, but the weather is absolutely freezing! the weather is going to get colder tomorrow.

What has everyone sown/planted yet, (apart from garlic)?

I haven't got my garlic in yet! It has been so blooming wet all winter and the only time it was dry I couldn't plant it as the ground was solid frozen.

Been busy sowing stuff today though - leeks, aubergines, peppers, chillies, more onions, more tomatoes and some flowers. I have taken over the kitchen since the greenhouse is full of barbecue and generator.
    Happy Gardening,

Bernie, I haven't sown anything at all yet, haven't cleaned out the greenhouse, or finished preparing the lotties! Don't worry, it'll all get done - don't forget, Oop North we've still got 4 months til last frost

Nothing here yet either - sitting on my hands, organising my seeds and sowing lists for the umpteenth time. I've sown stuff too early before and just ended up with leggy seedlings desparate for more daylight!

But I've just got the 1st earlies for chitting - does that count?

Nothing Trying not to get a house full of plants I cant put out. Kids will knock em flying. Why do boys get more clumsy the older they get?
Reminding myself that the temp is going to plummet so even window sill will be cold at night.
Have just put all my seeds on a spreadsheet etc, (well it beats the ironing)
Can you tell I'm dying to get started but trying sooo hard to be sensible?

Thought I'd try a little experiment and got 8 peas growing(in toilet rolls) + 5 of my 6 broad beans (in toilet rolls - the 6th never appeared..., 4 bush courgette's some brussels, and cauli's( all in small pots). This is apart from a few of each toms and chillies(in unheated propogators) - have the space in the spare room with a grow lamp on them and central heating to keep room warm (it's the room with the PC). The caulis and the brussels are a bit leggy however the toms, chillis and rest seem to be fine. Plan to get them into the greeenhouse in about a month and see if I can get some early peas from a trough in there with 1 or 2 of the bush courgettes.

I germinated carrots, onions, turnips and spinach inside in the troughs I intend them to grow in, and then put them outside in the unheated greenhouse. They are looking fine so far, but we will see. I also have pinhead mushrooms in my mushrooms growing kit I was given for Christmas (in the understairs cupboard), and tomatoes and chillie on the bedroom window sill.
Although the weather has looked great the last couple of days, with the forecast for snow and freezing temepratures, I haven't bothered to do anything outside yet.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Garlic and shallots. A couple of tomatoes and peppers to try the moon planting thing. Some pots of spring onions which are looking great. I'm going to plant my aubergines very soon and some salad leaves. For the rest I'll hang on for a while.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Just my onion seeds. I sowed about 10 days ago. They are all up and in the conservatory which is not too hot.
Started my chilli's this time last year but its too bothersome having them in the window for so long.
May start them off in a week or two if it gets a bit milder.
