  • One down and one to go

The boy child (son & heir) and his GF have finally bought themselves a house and are in the process of moving in.

I suppose this makes her his OH now.

It's a new house and they had saved hard so everything is brand new going in it. Oh how different from my first place, bits and bobs scrounged from family & friends, only had cushions to sit on for the first few months.

For such an intelligent lad, he has been hopeless at getting everything ordered in time. Has the new flat screen TVs but no bed ordered.

Posh dinning table but no fridge.

Says he will be coming here for Christmas dinner & his OH will go to her parents but we won't see as much of them over the period, so this is going to be a bit strange.

Girl child is older now so will be slipping to friends houses a lot.

Cat & dog can't play board games so OH and myself are going to have a bit of a quiet Crimbo this year.

Still on the plus side, we can liberate the house at bit.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

Still worth making an effort for you both to enjoy your first Xmas together..just think..breakfast in bed opening pressies whilst the neighbours are running up and down the road with their kids on their first bikes having been awake since 5am!!! ( don't think that tends to happen these days does it???)

We were nearly 2 over here, but OH has managed to get a week off ...yey!!!!!...so we'll be heading off to Cheshire...no rest for us then!

Hard work this shedding of offspring.

Just been round to his house to floor the loft and put lighting up there.

First I had to roll up the second layer of lagging. The builders had laid the first 4" between the joists and the second layer across the joist, as is usual but of course the second layer needed to be between the joists also to lay the boards.

God there is some wiring up there. His house has both hot water and electric solar panels along with the switch gear to sell electric back to the grid. Of course all this was just laid across the joists so had to do cut outs in the boards and put down trunking.

All my clothes have been bagged and binned and have had a nice hot shower to get the fibre glass out of my pores.

Still he did cook me beans on toast and made me probably the worst cup of coffee I've had. He's got one of these water filter/water heater things, the noise it makes is unbelieveable, bet he won't use that in the early hours.

Of course he doesn't know yet when his bin men collect, so I ended up bringing all the waste away with me as well.

When our two finally left we ended up with the older generation here for Christmas! Never managed a quiet Christmas together. We started a few new traditions too - scrambled egg, smoked salmon and fizz (well, Cava) for breakfast. Now the kids come back for that!
