  • I'm sulking and feel bad about it.

I wanted to get myself an allotment, not even this year but next and all the waiting lists are years and years long.
I have a garden which I can convert to a plot and am going to be doing this soon, I even have a small space out the front garden which gets sunlight so I think in all I can probably get the same amount of growing space at home as I would get at an allotment.
But I am not happy with that, I want an allotment, I want it to be a place I can go to so I can get out and have some quiet me time, although I will be alone in my garden and the times I will be tending to it I will be home alone it's not the same. But I feel guilty about sulking about it as I know I am lucky to have a garden and some people on waiting lists haven't even got that.

Why are we never happy with what we have got?

If we were happy with what we had then we wouldn't evolve.

Alot of the people on our lotties live on boats, with no garden whatsoever. Sometimes, when we chat to them, they are amazed that we live 'in a house'. Yup, in a house.

At least in the garden you don't have to cart the veg too far, you can keep an eye on it and nip out at a moment's notice to harvest sweetcorn and drop it straight into boiling water.

Grass is always greener ....and all that..( unless it's Lynda's garden of course!!!)
Good for you wanting a lottie- keep on at them- you may get one sooner than you expected!!!

Anything you're desperately looking forward to growing- or just the piece and quiet?? ( can get a bit noisy with strimmers and mowers at times!)

...oh - and welcome to the Vine!

You'll find that the waiting lists go down quicker than you think, I was quite amazed how quickly the time when until I got one and now it's all mine............. Would do a manic laugh here but not too sure how to spell that!

Re the never happy with what we've got, I am although it always makes me sad that so many people don't live for today, enjoy what you've got, take pleasure from the little things but don't always pine for what other people have got - if you get talking to them then they're often any happier than you. Alternatively if you really hate something then do something about it, like you want a lottie, can't have one yet so are growing stuff at home - enjoy it!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
