I've just reported another one on the Bandwidth Poll Thread. Silly idiots.

They are indeed a bit rife this weekend, I have banned 9 members since yesterday for spamming, abuse or multiple accounts.

I really appreciate your reports as they flag up the issue as we mods tend to flit in and out at the weekend and your reports really help us. Thank you all for bringing the spam idiots to our attention.

the advertising ones are practically impossble to stop, cos they search via key word, as soon as someone types 'wow' on a forum anywhere, it will come up in a search, then some poor underpaid east asian joins any forum that has the word and sits there posting for pennies per hour, as its actual people, not bots, nothing you can do.

Assuming 'abuse' doesn't mean calling other viners nasty names (although obviously that would be a reason for banning someone), this is probably a dim question, but what is the point/gain in having multiple accounts or 'spamming' and what constitutes 'abuse'?

Spamming puts key "words" onto the world wide web where search engines pick them up and with more "hits" the higher up a search engines ratings they go. Also its advertising, generally porn, viagra or other unsavoury practices.

People who are banned very often set up another account so that they can carry on spamming, a few people use them to cause trouble by throwing in conteversial views etc on a thread, which they hope then will be not traced back to them.

Abuse is any posting, pming or emailing that is sexist, racist, threatening or downright abusive to members or moderators.

We give most things a free reign but if we do need to use our teeth, we do, and we dont let go. We mods like to sit in the background but this weekend has been a bit hectic with porn adds, seed beggers and other unsavouries turning up by the tram load.

I presume that it can either be somethng that's completely irrelevant and unwanted clutter in the section in which it was posted, or perhaps the posting may have some conflict of interest with the owner of this forum.

Irrelevance is not an issue on the vine, crikey, half of my posts probably fall into that category. Neither is posting in the wrong category a problem, we often shuffle threads into more appropriate sections.

If a person is banned its for a reason, by far the most common is deliberate spam advertising.

Well, I'd like to thank Piglet and the other Mods who do a fab job here. Not heavy-handed, just efficient.
This is a friendly forum, (unlike most of the others I've seen) and long may it be so

Agree with TwoSheds, the mods do a great job, but it's up to us to report dodgy posts. Use the little red warning triangle top right hand side of the post
