  • Fuchsia cuttings

My hardy fuchsia cuttings are rooted (currently indoors on a windowsill), and I have removed the plastic bag.. but now what? Do I keep them indoors all winter, or harden them off and keep them in a coldframe? I don't have access to a greenhouse.

if they are hardy you don't need to give them too much protection, mine rooted outside in a cold-frame. I'd get em outside into the cold-frame

      Hi there,

I would think it depends on how long they've been rooted and how much of a root system they've got and pot size.

I agree with Piskie, if they're a hardy type and growing away in a reasonable sized pot, I'd bung them outside somewhere protected.

If they are newly rooted and/or are in a tiny pot, they may not be able to stand up to extended periods of freezing or the rapid changes in day/night temp.

If you're not sure, i've had great success sinking the pots in a shallow box filled with broken up bits of polystyrene (or you could use scrumpled up newspaper) and covering it with a bit of fleece - this provides insulation and helps keep the soil temp stable.
