  • Scary pumpkin thread

A while ago there was a request for a scary pumpkin thread so as today's the day here we go. Please add your own pictures as I'd love to see. I used zombiepumpkinsdotcom as a guide for some templates. The first is quite a small pumpkin (football size) but the second is my large 60kg one.

Righty then, here's mine. It's not very scary, but it was my first attempt at pumkin carving and the cat was nearby, so got inspired!! That was last year - who knows what I'll do this year!

Wow- they are scary! Brilliant carving work there! We haven't done ours yet so it's still sitting all innocently looking like Stewie Griffin. I might take a wander over to the fancy website, but suspect Mr R (who will be wielding the knife) will want to go for something easy!

I'll be in charge of turning the insides into pumpkin and sage ravioli! Yummy...

I found it suprisingly easy and the light covers up any scruffiness. Draw the shape on paper first, then cut out the holes to make your template. Tape it on the pumpkin and draw through the gaps to get your outlines onto the skin.

The toughest bit is getting started. I tried to make a cube cutout first and push it into the hollow using the back of a biro. Once you've got a hole made taking more off to shape isn't that difficult. Use a fine knife to go round the last bits by which time its eaiser to have the regular lights off and a candle illuminating from the inside.

Don't forget work from the inside of the design out and make sure any intricate bits are done when there is support from the bulk of the flesh. Good luck!
