There's a website I use quite often DIY - Home Improvement - Do It Yourself if you ask on the forum about any building/plumbing/etc etc problem you get lots of opinions and advice (most of it good!), plus they are really helpful to girlies and you can imagine it's the Richard Gere Plumber you're talking too...

Poor you! I just had a very unpleasant flashback to last New Year when Mr R had gone skiing (stag so no girlies allowed) and the new boiler just stopped working. It was FREEZING and I had the coldest New Year's Eve party ever! The lovely people who came were very understanding and it was 'warm' in it's own way!

Our system is a Baxi-something, and although it had a faulty circuit board when installed, it's been great ever since.

When our CH boiler died last winter, I turned the oven on to max with the oven door open. Best fan heater I've ever used, it sent heat all round the kitchen and dining room and kept us warm until the boiler was fixed.

We have a Ferroli combi - had it ten years now, no probs at all. I have heard from our service engineer that Worcester/Bosch boilers are very good too.

I have a baxi as does the neighbour both have had problem mine twice once was due to a loose wire took two engineers and three visits to discover it an also the circuit board next doors broke and she had a hell of a time getting it fixed, they supposedly fixed it three times before it was finally sorted, the engineer that fixed mine said the circuit boards were always going on them!!
