tempted into going to night college to do a course in growing veg and salad along with organic gardening. just wondering if its worth while. has anyone done a similar course

Well good for you!Education is never wasted,especially if you enjoy the subject,i havent done a course on gardening but still may do.you go for it what have you got to lose? -
I havent done one but im looking into doing one on-line at the moment, its with the HCC, £36 per month.Life isnt about surviving the storm.....But learning to dance in the rain.Comment

I was once in the same situation as you, but without people to ask advice from (no forum, no friends who had a similar calling!) and I kind of decided that if I 'went for it' i'd have nothing to lose.
I was the oldest on the course, and the only girl. I think I was in my late twenties?!!? but the main thing was that I was passionately interested and wanted to learn as much as the course would let me.
I didn't do as well as the 18 year old lads in the 'Machinery' classes, but I'm a dab hand at mixing two-stroke, can strim my way through any wilderness, cannot, repeat, cannot repair a lawnmower to save my life, but DO know most Botanical and common names of plants, with or without leaves on in any season, and knowing every little thing that I DO know about Horticulture, has blown my proverbial frock up in life.
I left with 'Distinction' Grades, and my Tutors were so, so proud of their efforts with me!
I cannot help but encourage you to do the course, and if at any time you need me for moral support, just PM me.

I was looking at courses yesterday, I'd love to go to college but with 2 children under the age of 3 at home it's a bit tricky. The HC courses look good, but I couldn't work out how to request a prospectus, so I'll leave it for a little while. I ummed and ahhed about doing an OU course a couple of years ago but went for it and really enjoyed it. Definitely go for it, you've got nothing to lose.

Hi,
I am currently studing for the RHS National Certificate in Horticulture one evening a week. This is at my local agricultural college. I highly recommend it. This is my second year and I have met some really nice people.
It is good to have a room full of people to swap seeds and cuttings with. It is also nice to be able to chat to loads of like minded people about gardening ,plants and all things green!!

I am on week two of RHS Level 2 at college and am doing a similar one at home with Stonebridge based in Cornwall.
My college course ends with an exam - so no pressure there
and the Stonebridge 'at home' course is modular. If I had to choose just one I would go for the at college course.
