Can you tell me why my Lilac hasn't flowered this year?

I potted it on in a new pot last autumn and I pruned it. I'm feeding it and its got lots of new green shoots but I have not had ONE flower. I suppose its too late for this year? The ones I've seen out and about have all got/had their flowers by now.

It usually flowers in May but ours at the time was in flower when I brought my son home from hospital the year he was born - that would be about April 19th - an early year.

I think it might be the pruning that did it. If you cut away the branches that were going to flower you would lose your flower for a year. Put the secateurs away for a year and you should get flowers next Spring.

Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
