  • Our front garden has been vandalised

Got home last night at midnight from a friends (walked back with the dogs) and went to bed.

Got up at about 7.30am, opened the front curtains about 8am and found that 4 trees in our front garden had been sawn down

Obviously happened between midnight and 4/5 am. We've no idea who has done it, or why. No one else's property has been damaged.

Whoever did it was very quiet, as otherwise the dogs would have heard, woken up and barked their heads off (as we know they can do).

We've contacted the police, and got a crime number. They've said they'll make some discreet house to house enquiries, but that's all they can do

OMG! what a shock for you (hugs)

Nasty sods, can't imagine why anyone would want to do that - have you ever had any complaints about your trees

How dreadful! What on earth would make someone do something like that.
Sounds like you are unlikely to get any closure on it though, given the time of day it happened. So frustrating.
You haven't got any disputes with neighbours with the shadow caused by your trees or anything have you?

What an awful thing to happen
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

OMG! That's awful. Why would someone do that? Must have been planned because who would walk around with a saw on the off-chance that they feel like chopping down a few trees?! Hope the police find the culprits.

              Commiserations : (
A similar thing happened to us 5 years ago - the top 5ft of a chestnut in our garden 'disappeared'. Despite denials, it turned out to be our loony neighbour, who was evicted a few months later.

You find it hard to believe that people walk round with a saw tucked under their jacket but it happens more often than you think. A neighbouring village suffered a spate of similar mindless vandalism last year. Quite a few people had trees felled or damaged and the culprits even took to sawing up the benches in the parks and church yard. As soon as the council replaced them the vandals would return to saw them up again. Fortunately they soon got bored (probably too much like work) and the problem seems to have stopped. No consolation for those that had their property damaged. I'm sure no one will be surprised to learn that the culprits were never caught.

I hope you can replace what you have lost but from your photo's it looks as though the trees were quite mature and any new ones planted would take a long time to look so good. Trees like that in a front garden are an asset to the whole street and would give pleasure to many people that pass by. It is such a shame that a few idiots seem to take pleasure in spoiling something so beautiful.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

That's nasty - but something tells me that the culprit might be a disgruntled or loonie neighbour. Were the trees blocking any light to anyone's house at all?

Actually, thinking about it; didn't you have those neighbours who built the fence around your garden that blocked out the landscape??? Are they trying to get you to leave for any reason?

Absolutely terrible ~ send your photos to the local rag, it'd make a great story and might even flush out the culprits (or embarrass them).

My first thought was the people who built the corral around your back garden ...

That is truly shocking OWG. Looks like a planned action to me rather than passing vandals. You've got a bad enemy. Maybe you could point the police in the right direction. I do hope they get someone for that kind of wanton destruction. You have my sympathy.
