Recommended camp sites on Isle of Wight

    Recommended camp sites on Isle of Wight

    We are looking to go camping in the school summer hols, and I was wondering if anyone has any personal recommendations if they have visited the Isle of Wight recently. I have emailed several as to availablity, but haven't heard back yet.
    We need 2 pitches, one preferably with electric, I would like to be within walking distance of the sea, but the others aren't so bothered. It would be nice if we could use a BBQ, and if there was a pub within walking distance, more votes or this one than the sea. A quiet site rather than a 'holiday camp' type would be better, even though we are taking teenagers. They are more into sitting around 'role playing' than partying!
    The original idea was a caravan, but I think we have left it too late, there only seem to be delux (read expensive) ones left.

    we went to one a few years ago, i think it was called ORchards? it was lovely, very clean< electric & water close by, it was for caravans, not sure if it was for tents, but worth a look!

    It was lovely though and highly recommended and not too noisy either .

        It was definately The Orchards as just googled it and I would highly recommend it, great location to reach everything as well, mind you thats not hard on the Isle of Wight.

        We went in the October half term and weather wasnt great and the twins hated sleeping in the caravan we owned, hence i spent every night up pushing them in the pram for the week and then sold the van when we returned!!! lol

          Been to Isle of Wight Camping, Touring and Caravan Parks - Southland Camping and Touring Park, Newchurch, Isle of Wight Holiday Accomodation several times and it is an excellent quiet site, pub within walking distance, sea a bit further.
          Good website and deals via Red Funnel(?).

            The Orchards was one I'd emailed. Shame your twins wouldn't sleep, no holiday fro you then. How old are they? Our camping trips as a family (without OH!) have been pretty basic, a week at my brother's farm, no showers or loo, but camp fires every night, cooking on it because we had no cooker. All mine have been in the scouts, so they entertained me with the songs and sketches they'd learned. Last year we branched out to a local site, which also allowed fire, but I bought a cooker as well. We had showers and toilets, but had to pay.
            As I said, the original idea was to hire a caravan, which we've usually done in the past, but this year OH has said he'll come camping, as long as I buy a new airbed so he gets a good nights sleep. He's no fun anyway if he's he's tired and aching, so worth every penny if we want a good holiday! If we get electric hook up as well, the kids can get an occasional fix of computer games in the evenings, especially if the weather is bad.

                the twins are now 7, when we went they were about 1/18 monthsish and it was hellish ha ha ! they went one way and then the other and they hated the caravan and there was us thinking 3 kids and cheaper hols!! So we sold it and i was gutted as it was a lovely van, i think they would love it now though.

                I like camping, but would love the blow up bed ha ha ! not good for my back, hard floors lol!

                Funny me and my OH are home bods, we like to be at home, we moved last year so instead of hols we are doing the bedrooms instead !! Now I work in a school I can only go in school hols and the cost is extortionate! I am sure you will have a fab time whereever you go
