  • Eglu

Hi,Just thought you'd like to know that my pink eglu arrived unexpectedly this morning! It was due on Tuesday next, leaving me with enough time to break it to my husband gently. However, i returned from walking the dog(Evie) my toy poodle, opened the front door and there it was in two massive boxes. My husband was in the shower so i didnt know what reaction i would get!Well glad to say he was lovely about it and hopefully will put the run up for me later.I have chosen three bantam hens from a local poultry farm and have named the hens with some help.Harriet,Jemima and Romany. Will see if i can get some photo's on here later.

Jilly you are so lucky. I bet you are excited! I had three ladies once
Gertie, Hettie and Clary they were so much fun and boy did the ever get themselves into trouble. 14 years on and I still laugh at their crazy antics! Magic.

Have a fab weekend...when do the bantams arrive?
    post some pics pleeeease :-)

Never name your birds after family members, cos it gets confusing.

        "want some more rosemary....rosemary?"

Its best just saying "any one want any more roast chicken"

Have definately not chosen family members names! Ha Ha.Have tried to put photos on here but it wont let me unless i can get them smaller.Hubby will try later.Eglu is really very good.I have found it a bit heavy to drag around but apart from that its fine .Birds have settled in quickly but dont know if they'll go into the house tonight .Torch at the ready!!

Did Hubby really not know? Really want to get chooks but might have have pushed it with homing puss cat from cat sanctuary. We'll let cat settle in and then maybe.....?We used much same tactics with moggie but chooks requires cash/organisation etc.Let us kow how you find Eglu set up,it looks really good and easy.

hi lettucegrow,The eglu set up was so easy,it takes approx 45mins to put up with clips to hold the pieces together. You only do it if you get the cheaper option as i did.If you get your birds from them they do the lot for you!you alslo get a lesson in poultry management. The house itself needs only for you to put the perches in place .Fantastic invention from my point of view.By the way i didn't need a torch they just went in when they were ready .No hubby really didn't know.i just hadn't picked the right time to tell him.Thankfully hes a great bloke with a sense of humour!Just said that i was a naughty girl.Hows your cat? when did you get it?eight years ago we rescued one, my girls called her fat lilly.Still thats kids for you.If you talk your other half round and get chooks you'll not regret it ,great fun.Eggs too.

hey Jilly, I was hoping you'd post again. Well done isnt it great. I did first big clean out of eglu yesterday, and it was so easy- I got an attachment for my hose (5.99) and a washing up brush (1.00) and it took 10 mins from beginning to end. At the moment Im trying to train the chooks to push open the door themselves in the morning _ im too scared to leave it open all night.

Hi all,I have just come in out of the garden after planting over thirty onions.Took me hours! Not the planting you understand, but the running to the eglu with worms! did someone warn me that it would become an obsession?Ha Ha ,yep madam Jo Jo tell me about it.Francesbean,my girls have muddied up the entrance as its been raining,so i'll be doing a big clean soon. What fun it is though, they are funny little things and i've had an egg from Romany and Jemima already i dont think it'll be too long before Harriet starts either. Thanks for your kind message barrie tough .Keep posting all have fun!

Hi Jilly, It all looks lovely! Well done you!!
Hens are such fun, they are the clowns of the animal world if you ask me. Mine would get into soooo much trouble, I would just look at them and say " it's as well I love you"
                            I do miss them!
                            please keep us posted!
