i would love to know how much people are paying for they allotments,were i live we pay 52 pounds for a 10 pole plot,can anyone beat that,by the way our rent has gone up by 50 per cent in the last two years,many thanks greenfingers.

We have forty plots on our site. The rent is governed by the cost of leasing the land from the council plus the water rates added together and divided by 40........simple as that!
The cost has unavoidably crept up each year and the present rent is £30 for a 10 rod plot.
I have two plots and pay £60 per annum. A small price to pay for the benefits and pleasure I get from allotmenteering methinks!

I have a 1/2 plot, couldn't tell you exactly how big it is (whats a rod?) approx 20' x 35' ish ish ish. I got it in july and coz it was in such a state the nice council man said he wouldn't charge me this year but from April it'll be £5 a year, bargain I say!Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.Comment

Well for me this year can't get any cheaper because its rent free
Its not always as good as this though and normal rent is £12 per annum. But if you took on an overgrown piece of land and converted it into a working plot second year comes free! I think its a great idea (not that there were any established plots going vacant
).
I know this is cheap but we don't get any on site services such as a shop or even mains water. We do have wells with handpumps though. Also the site is on a floodplain and last year my site was under 3 feet so its not perfect!
In my opinion the cost is indifferent. Pick the site that is closest or has easiest and quickest access. No matter how much you save in rent averaged over the year it won't be worth the hassle. You want somewhere so convenient you can get there on an almost daily basis in the summer without the trip being a chore.Comment

I have just paid £12 for a year on a plot roughly 12' x 100' which I think is mightly good value! We don't have a shop or any other amenities other than a water tap but I don't mind that since it's only a 5min drive from home, the closest I could get.Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

I pay £41.40 here in Leeds for a whacking great big plot. Its gone up quite a lot, think it was £28 when I first started 2 years ago and the plot was in a right state, I did ask for the first year to be rent free as it was so overgrown but they said if I didnt want it theyd give it to someone else. That includes water but theres barely any fencing around the site so its quite often vandalised and scallies break in when youre down there etc. The council are not very helpful, friendly or even polite when it comes to dealing with allotmenteers. I pay £30 for a plot which is more like 7 rods than 10. We have no shop, no water (taps or otherwise), no security fencing, no communal tools, no rent free period for overgrown plots... In fact, what the hell am I doing there??

I pay £22 for my 33' x 80' plot. The site has water taps at throughout and I have seen signs for a seed store but never actually found it!Comment

£29 a year for me, Thats a 10 rodder. We have a mains fed water trough on many plots (mine being one of them) And we have a little portacabin for a shop, that is open 9.30 to 11.30 on sundays. Except winter time.
