I like the bit about using a cherry stoner.

Mine won't fit in my cherry stoner but if you cut round the crease and twist they open quite easily.

I do what Binley does. The cherry stoner I used to have (gadget freak) was a little round thing, nothing like the one in the pictures.

          I've cracked it..
          You dont need expensive tools.
Get a chopstick, push it into the flower end of a ripe plum and the stone comes out of the stalk end as clean as a whistle. I did 3 lbs of windfall plums in a matter of a couple of mins and now they are coated in castor sugar syrup and in the freezer for use when i gets more time.

I cut mine in half and flick the stone out. Dog crunched the stones and his botty was regular and stinky all night.

                    Brilliant idea!

Too late for me though because I got a box of cheap plums from the market, spent ages cutting them in half and pulling out the stones, and getting sticcky juice everywhere. I tried a cherry stoner, but it was more trouble than it was worth because it kept getting jammed.

I have a dehydrator ....bought it last year and have so far dried raspberries, cherries and plums this year. Next up is apple rings. You may be able to dry them in the oven on a very low heat like tomatoes.

Don't forget to crush the stones from plums and get the 'seed' in the middle, it smells and tastes beautiful! Put it in booze/jam

I add the kernels from about 5 plums into the jam when I'm making it - really does add a different depth to the jam!
