  • Types of Vinegar

I think I'm hooked on preserving stuff!

Last year and the year before I made chutneys and bread and butter pickles and I'm planning on making more this year.

I used a well known brand of 'pickling vinegar' for the first batch of my bread and butter pickles this year as it was a lot cheaper than any of the other vinegar available in the supermarket and it worked out fine, just adjusted my spices slightly.

Is there a cheaper alternative to the cider vinegar / white wine vinegar that so many recipes call for? At anything up to £1.40 for a 350ml bottle it quickly adds up!

I buy in bulk ......but I do use rather a lot
failing that , I've found Morrisons to be the cheapest for smaller quantities

May I inquire as to where I could buy in bulk from?! I'm not averse to a bit of stashing away to save a bit of cash! : )

Sadly closest Morrison's to me is about 11 miles away... there are plans for one here in Colchester but I think we'll be waiting a while!

Hehehe! Only one lot of each purchased... I already have to convince OH of the wisdom of storing 22ltrs of vinegar... the promise of another batch of bread and butter pickles and chilli jam is helping no end though! ; )
