  • Non Brewed Condiment - don't confuse me with technical jargon!

    I went into a local grocers today and noticed that they had gallon containers of vinegar stuff labelled 'Spiced Non Brewed condiment'.

    Could someone who knows please tell me if this can be used for pickling onions and if so how? I asked the shop assistant who knew less than me

      It can be used for pickling, it's not watered down vinegar it's vinegar made chemically, i.e the chemical formula for acetic acid, rather than brewed, but it pickles ok.

        T8Ter is right it can be used - I would avoid it at all costs. It is an inferior substitute for real vinegar. But I guess if you are using pungent ingredients, it may be passable.
        A good way to deter predators is to taste awful.

          Thanks for the replies - that clears up the confusion.

          I thought it was just too cheap

          I ended up getting a gallon of proper malt vinegar and some pickling spices for doing more onions.
