I think this comes into the Why didn't I think of that category.
Don't buy semi-skimmed or skimmed milk, buy wholemilk and water it down as required. Same price so you get more for your money. Sue |

Milk ? what is that stuff they sell in cartons ? I look at the sell by dates in amazement and know that whatever is in there it's not milk. Whatever it is it's very handy and I use it, but milk it is not ! It doesn't taste like milk and what do they do to it to make it keep for weeks ?
Real milk has a very strong flavour and might keep 24 hours. The stuff in the cartons is irradiated, skimmed, heat treated and dear knows what to produce something that tastes of nothing and will keep for weeks. Horrible but handy. Rave over.

We use semi skimmed all the time - however I recently bought a pint of full fat to use as a water/milk solution to spray my peas with. I only used a small amount of the milk and then drank the rest - forgot how good it tastes compared to semi skimmed!
Not sure I'd be too keen on "proper" milk, but hey, until you've tried it....

Mandy - don't do it.
At least not until our lords and masters tell us that the things we were brought up to think were good for us, but have since been deemed to be bad for us, are found to be good for us after all. KK |

Lucky you. I havent drunk a glass of milk in years as I grew up with milk straight from the cow (well the local farm) then my mum bred dairy goats for years. However, I prefer semi-skimmed in tea as I find full fat milk too heavy in that.

Yes, you are right, Nicos. We do have UHT milk in the shops here, just as you do in UK. We also have fresh milk in the shops here, full, semi-skimmed and skimmed just as you do in UK.
The only dairy product we haven't found here is Clotted Cream, and as a south Devonshire boy, I would love to get some. It is, after all, the only foodstuff known to man that is more than 100% fat! KK |

Only yesterday I was reciting a story to my OH about being stuck behind a milk float that morning (no, I know, not a very interesting story!!) and his 12 year old son asked me what a milk float was ........ sign of the times??
