I hang ours near the central heating boiler- all threaded together on a thick piece of cotton .
Just need to be somewhere not damp with a good airflow.
I'm sure you could dry them in the oven but I'm trying to keep my carbon footprint down!!!

I just thread mine onto some strong thread and hang them from the pan rack in the kitchen along with some strings of garlic and chorizo sausage. They dry out very quickly and then last forever.

They also freeze really well whole or sliced if you want.

You don't need extra heat - mine dried indoors quite successfully without being near the airing cupboard. I threaded most onto strings of cotton and hung them up - that's good if you don't have any convenient surfaces on which to spread them out.

I tried the threading on a piece of strong string method last year and it worked well - still got lots to use, which is a good job as my chilli plants are very slow this year!

I just left some on a window ledge a few years ago and they dried fine there, doesn't look so good as a string full.

If you just spread them out and leave them lying anywhere they will dry out. I prefer to freeze mine.

I've never had enough time or inclination to thread them onto string/thread (although i do want to give it a try), i just spread them out on plates and put them on the windowsill, or anywhere really thats warm and dry - they takes ages to dry out, but when they do i then store them in large sandwich bags - i've still got 2 massive bagfulls left from last year!

Don't bother if you live in a basement flat...all mine went mouldy

Now I get mother to dry them - and they seem to get even hotter once dried

The best way is to thread them on string and suspend from any convenient point in the kitchen. You don't neat anyheating, just a flow of air round them. Last year I didn't get round to stringing them, and they dried perfectly well in the plastic bowl I'd left them in. As long as you make sure they don't get damp they should be fine. I'm with Two Sheds, dried chillies seem hotter than fresh.

as already said, thread on a string and hang somewhere - we find somewhere cool, dry and dark is best.
but we prefer to preserve them in jars of olive oil, after a little while the oil itself gives a bit of a kick to meals.

I hear much mention of threading chillies on a string. Can someone let me know, in simple terms, how this is done?

I would guess you take a large needle and thread it with a thick thread then 'sew' through the chili stalk. To keep them spaced (like pearls) you would maybe put knots in the string between the chillies.
