  • Elderflower Beer

Hi, I'm looking to produce a batch of beer from a kit and flavour with elderflower. I'm planning to use a Woodforde Nelsons Revenge kit and brew as normal apart from the addition of some heads of elderflower or some cordial my wife has made already. If i use the cordial should i add before the fermentation,or use it to prime the bottles? Will the sugar increase the eventual strength of the brew? Any advice appreciated, thanks in advance!

I am by no means an expert, but I would be careful not to put too much in as it might overpower the ale. I've tried the Badger brewery one (englands glory?) that has a hint of elderflower and it is lovely.

Perhaps add a little cordial after the ferment has started and give the flowers a miss to avoid spoilage? That way you can prime as normal, or, if it is not strong enough for your liking prime with cordial.
Excuse me, could we have an eel? You've got eels down your leg.

personally I would just use Woodfordes Nelson as is, it is a great ale that needs no additions, how about Youngs "Harvest Bitter" now that could do with some help!.

Or you could just add a drop of the cordial to your taste when you pour the beer................that way you can adjust it to suit!

Snadger, now, why oh why didnt i think of that?!?! The simplicity of it boggles my mind totally! The only snag is i wanted to give the odd bottle away,i guess i'll just have to invite people around to drink it instead! Doh! I'm still going to make a batch up,i think i'll try priming 5 bottles to see how they go and do the rest as a normal brew. That way i've got another 35 bottles made up and ready to mix as i like.

          Thanks for the answers,cheers!
