  • blackcurrant vodka and how to make it

    Hi
can anyone tell me how to make blackcurrant vodka? After reading the other threads its made me thirsty..

My new blackcurrant bushes that i brought a few months back have started to fruit, so would like to harvest some for my favorite drink.

I would imagine that you make it like any other soft fruit version, fruit, sugar and vodka. Shake daily until sugar dissolved then leave. Sample, leave again, sample some more, strain the fruit and have with ice cream, slamper agern, leeve a lickle while...........vodka, what vodka? 'sa empy bollit, hic.

Can you tell I've made fruit vodka before. Best ever, so far is damson. For someone like me, who doesn't drink, it's lethal!

I steep my blackcurrants in brandy but will try them in vodka too (can't have too much of a good thing!)

You can use vodka, gin, whiskey or brandy to make fruit liqueurs. Method is the same for all.

So far, I have been very very successful with Sloe Gin, so I then tried Strawberry Vodka - I can't describe how fab it is! Unfortunately, I only made one small bottle. Since then I have made Damson Brandy, but I don't like it - I suspect it needs more sugar, and Raspberry Vodka. Raspberry Vodka is simply the best thing in the world!

I buy the cheapest supermarket voddy, when it's on special offer, and wait until the fruit is on BOGOF. I currently have two 4 pint milk cartons with Raspberry Voddy in, and I can't wait for it to be ready. I made it at the end of May, so will be a while yet.

I adore Blackcurrants, so will have to try that, also Elderberry Voddy, as we'll have an abundance of those here soon too. TS (I think) makes Elderberry Port - I may have to research that one too!

              Happy (Hic) brewing!

Funny you should mention it, because I've just finished racking 20 litres of the stuff
I'm calming down the winemaking and being more selective from now on. I won't bother with any more vegetable wines, because as Flummery has said, they is 'orrible. Really.

In my experience, the best wines (as in, the ones I can actually get Himself to drink) are those made with sloes or elderberries. Very, very nice they are too.

For a lighter, very drinkable, cheap and quick wine, you can't beat Shirl's Fruit Teabag wine

Fill a jar with fruit, prick if necessary. Add sugar and shake down. Add alcohol of choice (brandy / gin / vodka)... shake daily for a week or so. Forget about it for 4 months.

no, no, no Janey that's all wrong

Taste it. Like it. Taste some more

Taste every day to make sure it's not going off. Realise it's half empty and fill up with more spirits. Realise it's not so fruity now, so finish it off and start again

It develops the fruity flavour faster if you leave just the fruit-and-sugar for a little while before adding the alcohol. With soft fruit you only need overnight, with harder things (like sloes, plums or cherries) you may need 48 hours or so. It's ready for the booze when you can see a little juice/syrup in the bottom of the jar.
I now have some blueberry brandy on the go (blueberies were VERY cheap on the market!).
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

I tend to freeze sloes/cranberries for 48 hours then put them straight in a jug with sugar and booze and shake hard every day until the sugar is dessolved...you can always add sugar in at a later date so don't put too much in! My faves so far have been cranberry vodka and honey, lemon and ginger sloe gin *burp*

Made blackberry vodka today with some eight year old Finnish vodka that's 60% proof. Will it be OK or will it affect my liqueur? It will probably affect my legs/brain.
