Hi I made some Blackcurrant Gin, well just put some Blackcurrants in some Gin a couple of months ago, and just came to taste it tonight, it was very harsh and not at all drinkable, I added some sugar but that didn't make it a lot better, any ideas what I can do to improve it? Thanks in advance for your kind advice. ![]()

I'm no expert here, you need Brewer to advise you on that one!. My thoughts are that they are both very dry tasting and maybe you need to add more sugar syrup? (ie dissolve some sugar in a small amount of water and gently heat to a thick syrup), Then add that to the alcohol. Suggest yoy try it on a small amount incase I am wrong!!!! Let us know how you get on!!

I assume that you tasted the blackcurrents, I have always found them to be quite sweet when ripe. It could be that the gin which is designed to be quite bitter has dominated the blackcurrants. Seems a bit of a shame as the gin manufacturer added about 10 different tastes to produce it. Did you put the blackcurrents in mashed or whole. Sounds to me like you needed more blackcurents or perhaps some blackberries to help with balance. You can always take a small amount of your brew and add measured amounts of sweetener (low cal) and see if this improves the taste. If it does then add in proportion to the whole brew. Or as I have said before you can mix it with something else you have which you found too sweet, or just store it.![]()

I added the blackcurrants in whole, didn't have a particular recipe that said how many, so I just put some in and gave it a go, I have added sugar now and that didn't improve the taste, I have some more blackcurrants in the freezer, so I might defrost some and put more in, as it is undrinkable at the moment, might just experiment with some sugar syrup and more blackcurrants! I will let you know the results. Thank you for your help.
