Dexterdog, just type Nettle beer into Google and the recipe will pop up. Spent a goodly sum spraying nettles with weedkiller today. Only consolation is they only grow in good ground and butterflies depend on them for breeding ground. Plenty of nettles here so maybe reason we have so many butterflies.Today saw painted ladies, peacocks, orange tips and others more dififcult to idenify.

Hi Alice, how lucky are you to see so many beautiful butterflies so early in the season. I,m afraid they're in short supply here and have been for the past few years now. Had a mass of peacocks two year ago but in spite of having a hugh patch of nettles and a buddlia bush hardly any butterflies around so far. Fingers crossed for this year as i just love to see them

Bramble, don't know what your garden's like. Have a look at mine under Do you have a view? I think the butterflies, bees, birds and general wildlife have built up over the years as we have more and more flowers and things have become more mature. We started the garden from nothing 20 years ago and cetainly have more butterflies than we had then. I think every year we seem to get a new variety to the collection. As your garden builds up so will your butterflies. Enjoy .

Hi all,
Just had my first ever home made nettle beer and it was absolutely lovely. Tasted a bit like Ginger beer but went down very well. The friend who made it only dropped off one bottle (some friend huh!!! ) and it was one of the Grolsch bottles that have the metal retaining clip on it - and boy did it need it.He says it was very easy to make so we may cultivate the patch in the field a little longer.......
