Default Golden Hops

Last year I bought two golden hops, they hardly did anything BUT this year, oh boy, 12-15 foot hundreds of hops. They are a major skin irritant so I'm thinking of moving them into a large barrel (metal 4' deep) to keep them away from the main path. All I want to know now is does anyone think this is a bad idea and what can I do with all these hops? Any recipes?

Thanks

Andrewo

Default Hops

Hi Andrewo,
Would like to grow some hops
Where did u get the hops from ?
Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall did a brew with hops in his river cottage program
will look through related books for instructions.
Are the hops easyto grow/look after....

Default Hops

I bought mine from Marshalls, they take a year to establish and boy they are very easy to grow BUT beware you can be allergic to the vine itself which contains tiny hairs and can give you an itchy rash.

To give you an idea of how many hops I got off one hill, I filled two buckets and if my bamboo sticks had been longer then I would have had more.

They are great as a cover plant, but remember they grow and grow and are a real bully.

Dry them out, outside, don't do them in the oven, stinks the house out and it ends up smelling like a brewery.
