    Hi All,

My wife and I have just taken the plunge and bought a greenhouse. We have a pebble and flags garden with lots of pot gardening going on but nowhere to grow our own food so fancied having a go without ripping up the entire garden which we don't have time for. We have bought an Alton Evolution 8 x 10 as we needed something sturdy as we live in the Isle of Man and suffer some strong winds, the greenhouse will be protected from the worst of the winter gales and seems a strong thing so fingers crossed. My wifes father was a market gardener in Cornwall so the smell of glasshouses will take her back to childhood. I am currently reading as much as I possibly can about greenhouse gardening and don't have the facility to plant outside so all has to happen in the glasshouse. I will no doubt be asking many stupid questions on here and will be grateful for help will post a photo when we get the thing up and running.
In the meantime good wishes to all.

    Paul & Ruth.

Welcome to the vine, is there any reason why you cannot grow veg in pots & containers. Quite a few of our resident grapes do just that.

We don't have a lot of useable garden our front is non private and not really useable as we largely don't see it we seem to keep it tidy only for neighbours to look at !
Ruth likes her ornamental trees in large pots at the back and I don't think she would approve of various other things on the patios, she has been enthusiastic about a greenhouse so won't push it !! LOL.

Hello and welcome to the vine Paul and Ruth

Just thought I'd say there's a few veg plants that look good in pots such as Cavolo Nero and Purple podded peas.

You'll be mainly growing tomatoes & chillies then?

Most people use their gh to start off their veg seedlings prior to planting them outside, but you don't want to grow anything in the garden?

That's a shame Paul as veggies come in an array of colours, they don't all have to be green............

I think she is warming to the idea of a few large pots in the garden after your posts so maybe we can do a limited amount outside too !!
