  • New garden, big challenge

We're in the process of moving house, to what will hopefully be our lifelong home. We knew we'd only do 5 - 10 years in our current house, but after 7 years I'll be sad to leave behind all the things we did in our garden. But the new challenge is big - we're going from a 30' x 30' to just over 1/3 acre. Like our current house it's almost a blank canvas.

Structural trees and a lot of the fruit and veg plot are going to be the main things to get in first. We're whiling away the (very) long wait for solicitors and banks looking through nursery catalogues.

If anyone has any drawings or layouts for long thin (max 20 m by 10m) plots, particularly with a path or lawn through the middle and including potting sheds / greenhouses.

Hello and welcome to the vine.We moved from a tiny new build garden to an empty acre with one mature birch tree and nothing else 11 years ago. U will really enjoy developing the garden.
I have a 3 by 3 grid of raised beds 1.2 m by 3m. Long enough to fit things in but easy enough to work and reach across without standing on the beds. My fruit cage sits at the back of the veg plot. I had grass paths initially but found them a pain to maintain.A membrane down and cheap wood chips has worked much better. The paths are wide enough to get a wheel barrow down comfortably.
The veg plot is surrounded by a fence to keep rabbits out and along the areas not hedged I have got espaliered apple trees.
Compost area is separate, and shed and greenhouse.
Do post some pictures of your progress if you can.mind still haven't got around to doing mine yet!
