  • New allotment

Hi I'm alec 27 and have been given the key to my new (and first) allotment. Have lots of plans and have picked up many ideas and tips from here already.

I'm a builder by trade so am not afraid of hard work or making things. I've also been making country wines and cider for about tree years so have plenty to trade with my new neighbours in exchange for knowledge.

Look forward to sharing my journey with you all and learning along the way

    Alec

Hi Alec and welcome to the Grapevine. Pull up a chair and make yourself at home
If you add your location to your profile, anyone local to you will spot it more easily.

Well you know how up til now skips were for putting stuff in...
Well now they're for taking things out.

If you have a van for throwing pallets/slabs/wood/etc in then you'll be the other plotters best friend

Post some pics so people can see the state of the plot and give some suggestions.

Also tell people your plans so they can point you in the right direction...

Welcome to the vine, Alec. I was about the same age when I got my first allotment. Let's see some pictures!

Have you decided what you want to grow yet?

This is what it looks like today. Hopfully I will get a start on it this week. I know from talking to other plot owners that my plot was worked last year so finger crossed it shouldn't be to bad (famous last words.)

I'm hoping to grow the following

                    Tomatoes
                    Strawberries
                    Sweet potato
                    Sweetcorn
                    Cucumber
                    Beetroot
And whatever else I think of along the way.

Hopefully I'll draw up a plan this week after clearing and digging over the plot.

                        I knew a builder with a plot
                        He didnt turn up often
I asked for a few tomatoes
co's they were starting to soften

He gave a sigh and looked at me
Then said i could have just two
The bad news is he said
                        Its really gonna cost you.

                        Welcome to our humble abode.

I have no idea what they are I'll try and take a better picture of them and see if anyone can identify them.
