    Hi I'm new

    Hi, i am new to this site and am not a member if any other. I am interested in growing my own veg. I pottered about last year and managed to grow very successful runner beans and radish. i also grew some carrots that did grow but were small, planted onions but nothing came of them. i planted all in big window pots but my beans i grew straght from the ground. i really want ti make a good go of it and want to get my 9 year old interested as well but so can only do it when i have time as have a new borne as well. any hints and tips would be more than welcome. :

    You can grow lots of veg in pots and boxes, as you've found! How much garden do you have that you can grow fruit and veg in?

        Hi Kristy, Welcome to the vine. I grow what i like to eat. Start off with just a few things that you eat often. I find you get a good return on lettuce. Beans, tomatoes and courgettes. Fruit bushes are also a good investment if you have a little garden space. Raspberries go down a treat in my house!

          well i have a decent size garden but must keep some of it for kids to play so i hve about an 8th of a football pitch plus three big window pots.

            hi scarlet, I'm not really a big fruit fan, i do like grapes but little one and other half tend to like tree fruits or tropical. I wouldn't mind a nice little potted pair tree though.

                    Hi guys and thank you all. So far i am finding this sight to be very freindly and helpful. Tomorrow i will start my prep and planting, yeay me lol. what would be bet to plan t now and when can i plant swede and is it hard to grow? oh so many questing lol. ;-)

                        I think you may have missed the boat for planting swede seed. Usual planting months are may and June. Perhaps you could pick up some plug plant from the garden centre?

                            oh poo lol thanx scarlet. would be my best bet on what to plant now i thought i had a good idea.I was going to do some last minuet runner beans, carrots, onions, cabbage, tomatoes and what about leeks?
