  • Hi everyone

Hi everyone im Alan from Fife.Married dad of two.I dont work as i have a prolapsed disc and severe nerve damage to one leg.i have taken up growing my own fruit and veg to get a bit of exercise and to help feed my family as the growing costs of supermarket food has shot up.this is my first year at trying to grow much as we have just got a place with a garden after moving away from the city (Edinburgh).

dont know how everyone else has found growing this year but its been quite a rubbish one up here in sunny scotland as we moved in on march and winter finally finished around middle of may and promptly turned into summer. My beans and pea plants are pretty tiny are only about 1-1 1/2 foot tall.bit disappointing.lol.everything im growing is in containers as its a rented property and the whole garden is chipped with rubble underneath.
So this year im growing lots of different types of chillies, peas, beans, rainbow carrots, onions.herbs, honeyberry, blueberry, strawberry, tayberry, loganberry, maybe lingonberry and thinking about Oca

I think Atos would find you "fit to work" if your remaining leg was hanging off ...

I can sympathise - as someone with recurrent sciatica, it's the allotment that gets me off the floor and gently walking down to the plots. Once there a careful walk around with hoe in hand is very therapeutic ( with over 20 raised beds plenty to take mind off that searing pain down the leg! )
