  • Hi from Derbyshire

    Hello everyone,

I just joined after a quick mooch around the site. I moved to chesterfield a few months ago and have a small garden and (shockingly) a full allotment plot - both total blank canvases.

Other than digging over the plot and tidying up some neglected shrubs, it's been a case of watching what the weather is like here. Winter hasn't been as bad as I was expecting so far.

Now I can see a few bulbs throwing shoots out, and I'm filling the window ledges with seed trays. This looks like a friendly place so I thought I'd join.

Oh that's good to know. I've been looking for seed fairs around. I see that I just missed a potato fair in chesterfield - no biggie as I'm not planning on growing spuds - but it's the more mainstream crops I'm after.

Do those sort of things happen?

Annoyingly when I took on my plot the allotment society was just doing their annual seed order. The prices were really good but I'd just moved house so my head was elsewhere.

I've since blagged a lot of fruit canes and bushes via freecycle, and people have said I can take cuttings of other things.

Seed swaps sound fun but I have little to offer now.

Ald1 & L1dl have their seeds in around 30p per pkt. £land & similar have multi packs, £1 for about 6 different veggies.
